The Hotel Krone in the course of time
Ever since 1700, all members of the Schlagenhauff family have been in the inn-keeping trade
The building which today houses the Hotel Krone was erected in 1721
The Schlagenhauff family has owned the hotel since 1885
Karl Friedrich Schlagenhauff bought the building and opened the renovated Restaurant and Café Krone on September 27, 1885
After the sudden death of Karl Friedrich and his wife in 1919, their son, Adolf Schlagenhauff, takes over the 12-bed hotel. In 1928, he and his wife raze the ancestral home and erect a modern hotel in the style of the Bauhaus, now with three floors and 60 beds.
In 1945, the hotel was requisitioned and made into housing for French officers and headquarters for the French military- and secret police. The restaurant remained in French hands until 1949 and, by orders of the French military government, Adolf Schlagenhauff continued to manage the hotel. In 1952, the Hotel Krone was returned to the family.
In 1954, Adolf Schlagenhauff acquires the neighboring building and extends the hotel, now to include more than 71 beds and several lounges and reception rooms
During the same year, his son Karl returns from a prolonged apprenticeship and stands by his father until Adolf´s death in 1963
In 1975, a fourth floor is added to the main building. The hotel now has 55 rooms and 77 beds
In 1996 Erika and Karl Schlagenhauff´s daughter, Sabine, returns to the family seat from her apprenticeship. She and her husband, Alexander Stagl, now jointly continue the tradition of this dynasty of gastronomers and hoteliers
