Zimmertheater Tübingen: Drama on the Neckarfront
Small house, great art!
Since 2018, it has been operating as the "Institut für theatrale Zukunftsforschung" and is developing into a hotspot for the production of contemporary performing arts in the south-west. The Zimmertheater has been a member of the Stadttheatergruppe des Deutschen Bühnenvereins since 2019, making it the smallest municipal theater in Germany.
In cooperation with the European independent scene, in residencies and with its own ensemble, socio-politically urgent discourses are stylized as contemporary developments. The overall program follows the principle of consistent discourse and participation: cultural education becomes contemporary audience development. In the heart of Cyber Valley, the ITZ explores the aesthetic potential of digital media and AI on stage and is part of the newly founded Digitalization in Theatre Network.
Cultural highlights at the ITZ in the Zimmertheater Tübingen
The ITZ in the Tübinger Zimmertheater develops ambitious, contemporary theatrical aesthetics for today and tomorrow and aims to explore the future of society using the means of theater.
Performances are staged from Thursday to Saturday on a total of three stages: Two of them are located in Bursagasse, the third stage in the former Löwen cinema in Kornhausstraße.
The Theatercafé in Bursagasse with its beautiful Neckar terrace offers a public place to linger with hot and cold drinks and free WiFi from 16:00 to 18:30 during the advance booking period.
The theater bar opens one hour before the performance begins and after the performances with a range of cocktails and snacks to satisfy small appetites.
In cooperation and networking with the city of Tübingen, its university and its citizens, numerous premieres and extraordinary theater events have been created since 2018.
